Coinhive is a company that provides publishers with JavaScript they can embed in their website code. The code causes the website to tap into any visitor's CPU to help mine for cryptocurrency — in this case, Monero.
Users may not know or consent to sharing their CPU with the websites they visit, and they don't receive any of the monetary benefits.
